Viet Nam attend the 7th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management and Other Related Meetings from 01 - 04 October 2019 in NAY PYI TAW, MYANMAR

9:22:53, 15/10/2019 In the framework of ASEAN cooperation on Disaster Management, Myanmar as the Chair of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) 2019 - Chair of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) has successful organized the 35th meeting of the ACDM and the related meeting from 1-4th October 2019; ASEAN Day for Disaster Management, 7th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management and the 8th Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) on 4 October 2019 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E U Henry Van Thio and H.E Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary – General of ASEAN attended the events and delivered the remarks at the opening Ceremony and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management 2019 (ADDM). These events were attended by the Ministers in charge of Disaster Management and national Agencies in charge of disaster management from 10 ASEAN countries, AHA Center as well as ASEAN partners.

Authorized by Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Vietnamese delegation headed by Mr. Nguyen Truong Son, Deputy Director General of Vietnam Disaster Management Agency (VNDMA) and the technical delegates from VNDMA and International Cooperation Department, ICD-MARD had attended these events.

The meetings discussed the important contents related to progress, priorities and implementation of ASEAN cooperation on disaster management and the implementation of the AADMER work program from 2016-2020; disaster situation and response to natural disasters in the region recently; the plan on drafting the AADMER Work Programme 2021-2025; ASEAN report on the implementation of One ASEAN One Response (OAOR) Declaration at the upcoming 35th ASEAN Summit; ASEAN regional Disaster Exercise in 2020 in Philippine (ARDEX-20) and cooperation with ASEAN partners etc.

On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Truong Son has delivered the statement on the Theme of the 2019 ASEAN Day on Disaster Management "Bridging Disaster Recovery to Resilience". The statement stating Vietnam's views on building back better (BBB) is not only interested in investing in construction and reconstruction after natural disasters to improve the resilience of the infrastructure system, people's houses, but also concerned about supporting people by transforming their livelihoods and raise awareness and skills on disaster prevention to be proactive in natural disasters to ensure the stabilization of people's lives towards building a safer society against natural disasters.
