Quang Tri: Landslide coast causing serious damage

There were 9/18 houses and eateries in the beach in Gio Hai commune, Gio Linh district collapsed over 50%.


On October 29, in Gio Hai commune, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province, a coastal landslide occurred due to high waves, causing 9 houses and eateries on the coast to collapse, causing damage of over 50%.

In addition, the 5.8 km long sea dyke along Gio Hai commune was also eroded by big waves, 20m deep into the mainland.

Mr. Ho Xuan Thuy, Vice Chairman of Gio Hai Commune People's Committee, said that the locality is making statistics on the damage as well as sending forces to support people to overcome the damage caused by coastal erosion.

At the beach of Trung Giang commune, Gio Linh district, the 7 km long coastal casuarina protection forest line was eroded by waves, the trees were uprooted and washed away. The coastal sand dyke line of this commune is also eroded inland from 2-5m.

Due to the influence of the postponement of typhoon No. 9, strong winds in Quang Tri province with heavy rains cause strong seas, floods on rivers reached alarming 2 and 3 on the night of October 28 and are falling. slow on the morning of October 29.

Flooding happened again in Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Cam Lo, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang districts, Quang Tri town. This is the 5th flood in just over 20 days in Quang Tri. In critical places, functional forces have assisted people to arrive safely.

In terms of traffic, heavy rains caused by typhoon No. 9 caused many roads to be eroded and seriously damaged. Specifically, on the Ho Chi Minh route, the West branch, the section passing Huong Hoa mountainous district, at Km205 + 500, had a positive slide; the section passing Dakrong district at Km249 + 728 - Km313 + 800 occurred landslide in many locations.

On October 29, the authorities had to organize a traffic control force at two posts in the North of Dakrong suspension bridge and at Km296. On Highway 15D, the cement concrete pavement at La Hot 1 bridge (Dakrong) was swept away 5m long and 0.7m deep.

At locations such as Km4 + 700; Km6 + 019, Km7 + 600, Km9 + 560; Km10 + 943, Km11 + 070, Km11 + 150 and Km11 + 330 on Highway 15D suffered from negative catastrophe, with a total erosion length of 120 m, of which some locations encroach on half of the road surface must be installed. Heavy trucks are prohibited.

In addition, the road surface of the section Km11 + 030-Km11 ​​+ 350 was seriously damaged by water erosion. Currently, the functional forces of Quang Tri province are gathering manpower, materials, machinery and equipment urgently, and simultaneously repairing the consequences to limit danger to people and vehicles in traffic. .

From October 6 to 23, the province had 4 floods.

Floods left 50 dead, 4 missing, and 25 injured. Quang Tri also has nearly 1,400 hectares of ponds and lakes for aquaculture, over 2,600 hectares of vegetables were flooded, almost completely lost; over 553,000 cattle and poultry were swept away by the floods.

National highways 15D, 9D, 49C, 9; The Ho Chi Minh road West branch and the interprovincial road were particularly seriously eroded. Estimated initial damage caused by flooding in Quang Tri was up to over 1,900 billion VND./.
