Ninh Thuan: Heavy rains cause flooding in many low-lying areas

On the evening of October 15, many residential areas of the commune were heavily flooded, roads passing through Tu Tam and Thanh Tin villages were flooded more than half a meter, obstructing traffic.Schools were also flooded due to flood waters.

Due to the heavy rain lasting for many hours and the flood discharge of some reservoirs, from the evening of October 15 to the morning of October 16, many low-lying localities in Ninh Thuan province were flooded, causing many agencies and schools to flood the area of ​​crops is deeply submerged in water.

In the communes of Phuoc Hai (Ninh Phuoc district), Phuoc Nam (Thuan Nam), heavy rains for many hours accompanied by Tan Giang lake flooding caused floods.

According to Mr. Chau Van Know, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Phuoc Hai Commune (Ninh Phuoc District), on the evening of October 15, many residential areas of the commune were heavily flooded, the roads passing through the two villages Tu Tam and Thanh Tin were more flooded half a meter obstructing traffic. Schools were also flooded by flood waters.

On the morning of October 16, the floodwaters decreased but the traffic in Phuoc Hai commune was still difficult due to the fast flowing water. The People's Committee of Phuoc Hai commune has arranged forces to be on duty at flooded roads to advise people not to drive across and avoid unfortunate accidents.

According to Ninh Thuan Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, within 5 hours, the measured rainfall in the mountainous area of ​​Thuan Nam district is from 80-82mm; in Thuan Bac district nearly 85 mm; in the districts of Ninh Son and Bac Ai from 50-60mm.

Due to heavy rains accompanied by flood discharge from lakes, floods on rivers rise very quickly. Currently, on the Lu River in Phuoc Ha Station (Thuan Nam district), the flood continues to rise and the peak probability is at 63.75m, above alarm 3 is 0.75m.

At Phuoc Huu station (Ninh Phuoc district), floods rise rapidly and peak probability is at 12m, approximately alarming 3.

Through the report of one member limited liability company exploiting irrigation works (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan province), the amount of water in 21 reservoirs has started to increase.

As of October 16, the total volume of water reached nearly 80 million m3 / 194.49 million m3 of storage capacity.

Particularly in Tan Giang lake, the amount of water reached 12.74 million / 13.39 million m3.

To ensure the safety of Tan Giang reservoir, the company was forced to conduct flood discharge with a flow of 55.47 m3 / second. Currently the company is discharging floods in 5 reservoirs, with a total flow of 134.5 m3 / sec.

Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Van, Director of Irrigation Sub-Department - Standing Committee of the Command for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Ninh Thuan province, said to proactively respond to tropical depression and floods in the area. , departments, branches, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in localities need to closely monitor the evolution of the tropical depression; notify ship owners operating at sea about the position and direction of movement of the low pressure area to escape the danger zone.

Provincial Border Guard Command, Fisheries Sub-Department, Management Board of fishing ports ... are ready to prepare forces and means of rescue and rescue to promptly handle bad situations could happen. Local authorities proactively inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, low-lying areas and areas prone to landslides in order to promptly evacuate people to safe places. Ninh Thuan Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue proposed a one-member limited liability company to exploit the provincial irrigation works to closely monitor the changes of rain and flood; be on duty and closely check the safety of the reservoir; implementing operational procedures to ensure safety for the project, minimize damage to people downstream./.
