Ke Go lake reduced flood discharge, not including spillway

15:42:1, 09/11/2020

Director of the Ha Tinh Irrigation Sub-Department Ngo Duc Hoi said that the flood discharge flow has been reduced in Ke Go lake, not including the spillway break due to the reduced rainfall.
On the evening of October 19, Mr. Ngo Duc Hoi said that the province and functional departments always closely monitor rain changes and the amount of water flowing to Ke Go Lake to direct appropriate regulation of spillage.

“From the beginning of this afternoon, in Ha Tinh, the rain started to decrease gradually, the amount of water returned to Ke Go lake has decreased. Tonight is discharging flood with the amount of 830m3 / 2, the amount of water returned to Ke Go lake is decreasing. Tonight with this rainfall, only the discharge flow will be reduced, not increased ”, Mr. Hoi said.

Mr. Pham Hoang Anh, Vice Chairman of Cam Xuyen District People's Committee, said that the past two days, heavy rains, with Ke Go lake flooding, caused heavy flooding in Ha Tinh city and the lower districts.

Ke Go Lake discharges floods causing floods

In Cam Xuyen district, there are 6 communes downstream of Ke Go lake such as Cam Due, Cam Thanh, Cam Vinh, Cam Quang, Cam Thach, and Cam Quan completely isolated.

“Now that the rain is small, the possibility of the heaviest rain will return 200mm, so the water level of Ke Go Lake will decrease, not rise. There has been a reduction in the discharge in the lake. From yesterday afternoon until today, Cam Xuyen District People's Committee coordinated with authorities to evacuate 32,000 people in critical areas, ”said Mr. Hoang Anh.

Previously, Ha Tinh had heavy rains, Ke Go Lake discharges floods with a large flow of 900m3 / s, causing many areas in the downstream of Ke Go Lake and neighboring areas such as Ha Tinh City to flood deeply in the sea.

The Provincial Command for Disaster Prevention, headed by Mr. Tran Tien Hung, ordered the evacuation of thousands of households. In which, evacuated more than 43,000 people, with more than 13,000 households in Cam Xuyen district; evacuate more than 2,600 people in Thach Ha district and 701 people in the city.
Up to 3pm last afternoon, the water level of Ke Go Lake reached 33.79m (down 1cm) above the design water level of 32.5m, discharge flow over the spillway was 930m3 / s.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tam - Deputy Director in charge of Nam Ha Tinh Irrigation One Member Company Limited, said that the positive signal is that the rainfall in Ke Go area has gradually decreased, but, according to the hydro-meteorological agency, from the 23rd. - Next October 24, there will be a new low pressure wave, so the risk is still not over.

There are 30 people on duty at Ke Go Irrigation Station to cope with the weather.
Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong's worries

Reporting at the Standing meeting of the Government on the rain and flood situation in Central Vietnam on October 19, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that from October 6-12 in a week from the 6th  and 7th storm, low pressure raged in the central part of our country. Rain and flood made 127 people dead and missing, "huge damage to the infrastructure institutions", Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on directing, especially the reservoir has exceeded the normal threshold, not to let incidents happen, the plan to evacuate people from the dangerous flooded areas. According to the Minister, heavy rains continue in Ha Tinh, Nghe An and parts of Quang Binh province. In particular, Mr. Cuong said that attention must be paid to Ha Tinh province, because in the past 24 hours there has been rainfall over 1,200 mm.

"The most dangerous is Ke Go lake, now full of water, the danger of being discharged directly into the city ...", Mr. Cuong said and suggested that it is necessary to focus on directing here. He said the water in the reservoirs and the forest cover is also full of water, so any damage can easily cause an impact. The Ministry has sent experts from the General Department of Water Resources to Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien - Hue to support the reservoir management. “There is no risk to the lake system. Because if it happens it will be a disaster, ”added Mr. Cuong. The Minister added that in the coming October 24-25, tropical low pressure will appear and may form storms, so it is necessary to have the spirit of reviewing and preparing to be prepared to avoid "disaster". According to forecasts, the rain and flood is long lasting and is expanding to the north. In addition, at present, a tropical depression has formed near the East Sea and according to information from a number of stations, international and regional agencies, this weekend, storms causing heavy rain and flood are likely to continue to affect mainland provinces in the Central region.
