Heavy downpours & flooding devastate central region

16:24:24, 13/12/2018 The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center alerted heavy downpours and serious flooding in provinces from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa.

Heavy downpours and flooding seriously devastate central region

The latest report by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Control on December 12 showed that at least 13 people were killed in Quang Tri, Thua Thien- Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces after a several day non-stop rain.
Additionally, the prolonged heavy downpours and huge flooding completely destroyed eight houses and inundated around 33,527 houses in Quang Nam and Binh Dinh provinces. The functional forces evacuated nearly 6,000 families.
The natural disaster swallowed kilometers of canals, traffic routes, sea dykes and fishing ponds etc…
Amid the ongoing flooding, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Control yesterday sent an emergency alert to relevant ministries, agencies, flooding-affected provinces and cities, calling quickly implementing anti-flooding measures, evacuating residents of low- lying areas to safer places, minimizing damages of property and lives.
