Hail and thunderstorms caused billions of dong in damage in Ha Giang and Lai Chau

9:40:37, 27/04/2020 Hail, whirlwind caused 810 houses in Ha Giang to be affected, many welfare works were damaged, crops were destroyed, in Lai Chau, hail and thunderstorms also caused great damage to property and crops.

Due to the influence of the cold air mass combined with the changing weather patterns, on April 22, some localities in Ha Giang province appeared hail accompanied by whirlwinds and heavy rains, causing many damages to people's property. Accordingly, hail accompanied by whirlwind caused many damages to houses, crops and welfare works of Hoang Su Phi, Xin Man, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac districts. Cyclones have affected 810 houses, of which Xin Man district was the worst hit with 229 houses completely unroofed. In Dong Van, Meo Vac, Yen Minh, Xin Man and Bac Me districts, there are 139 houses with roof losses of 70-90% .... Damage is estimated at VND 2.2 billion. Mr. Wen Van Tien, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xin Man Commune, Xin Man District (Ha Giang), said that hail and wind had caused many houses in the commune damaged. Some welfare works were damaged; many areas of Spring maize were collapsed and crushed; Rice crops, upland rice and fruit trees were also destroyed. Facing the consequences of the hail and windstorms, the People's Committee of the districts affected by natural disasters in Ha Giang province took initiative in many urgent measures to overcome and mobilize resources according to the set 4 on the spot to overcome consequences and stabilize people's life.

Meanwhile in Lai Chau, thunderstorms and hail also appeared in all districts and cities in the province at 17:30 on the same day and lasted for more than half an hour. Initially, there were many losses in property and crops .

Accordingly, the districts of Tan Uyen, Tam Duong, Nam Nhun and Muong Te recorded hail and thunderstorms that caused great damage to property, fruit trees, crops and speeded many roofs.

In the districts of Than Uyen, Sin Ho, Phong Tho and Lai Chau City, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms crushed many crops, collapsed trees, demolished people's houses, as well as damaged many properties of the people.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Lai Chau Province contacted the authorities and the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in districts and cities. direct communes, wards and townships to conduct damage reviews, and at the same time propagate for households to proactively repair damage.

Mr. Vu Xuan Tinh, Standing Deputy Chief of the Standing Office, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Lai Chau Province said that the Provincial Steering Committee has directed the government and the local Steering Committee to conduct to review damages.


In the immediate future, households with small losses of their houses will be temporarily overcome to stabilize their lives. The severely damaged households take initiative in moving their belongings and assets to their relatives' houses to stay in during the night. On April 23, local authorities will conduct inspection, review and synthesize the details of the damage to report to the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue to provide guidance for long-term recovery./.
