Floods cause great damage in Dien Bien province

11:19:38, 08/07/2022 Flooding rain lasting for many hours occurred on the morning of July 3 in Dien Bien, causing great damage to people and properties, the total initial damage was about 6,046 billion VND.


The functional forces made every effort to search and rescue people trapped in the hydroelectric tunnel in Phi Linh 1 village, Si Pa Phin commune, Nam Po district, Dien Bien province 

According to information from the Commanding Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (Firefighting and Rescue) of Dien Bien province, due to the influence of heavy rain on a large area in the whole province, the amount of rain measured in some places was over 100mm. causing great damage to crops and property.
Specifically, 3 people were injured, 1 person was trapped for many hours and still lost contact - The incident happened on the morning of July 3 at the hydroelectric tunneling site (Phi Linh 1 village, Si Pa commune). Phin, Nam Po district), due to rain and flood flooding into the tunnel while the workers were constructing at the tunnel entrance.


After providing first aid, the three injured people were transferred to the Muong Cha District Medical Center for monitoring and treatment. Meanwhile, the Commanding Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Technical Rescue of Nam Po district continues to direct the units to coordinate with the construction unit to use pumps with large capacity to suck water in the tunnel to search for victims trapped in the tunnel.

Regarding assets, there are 7 houses that were damaged by landslides and had to be relocated urgently (5 houses in Na Nhan commune, Dien Bien Phu city, 2 houses in Muong Muon commune, Muong Cha district); 1 house in Muong Ang district.

In terms of agriculture, 209.2 hectares of land were damaged, of which 185.7 hectares of rice were flooded, with over 70% loss in landslides; 20.6 hectares of rice was damaged by 30-50%. In addition, 502 livestock, poultry and many fish farming areas were washed away.

Heavy rains also made many roads landslide, causing traffic jams for many hours. Specifically, on Highway 12 connecting Muong Cha district to Muong Lay town and Lai Chau province, nearly a dozen large and small landslides occurred. In which, from Km137-Km160 (the area of ​​Muong Muon commune, Muong Cha district) there are more than 5 places that are severely flooded and landslide. At the following locations: Km137+400, Km157+400, Km160 National Highway 12, mud, soil and rock overflowed into the roadway; the area of ​​Km157+400 flooded very heavily.

At Km7+320, Highway 4H connecting Muong Cha district with Muong Nhe also had a heavy landslide, thousands of m3 of mud and mud spilled onto the roadway, causing traffic paralysis.

The Road Management Unit has focused on mobilizing machinery and human resources to quickly overcome the consequences of rain and floods, and open routes on two key national highways to ensure travel for people and vehicles.

According to an estimate of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Technical Rescue of Dien Bien Province, the total initial damage was about VND 6,046 billion.
