Da Nang to host annual meetings of ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management from June 13-15

10:34:56, 13/06/2023 Some annual meetings of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) will take place in Da Nang, from June 13 - 15.

They will include the 42nd meeting of ACDM; the 18th meeting of the AHA Centre Executive (ACE) Board; the 3rd ASEAN Disaster Response Forum (ADRP); the annual meetings between ACDM and China (5th time), Japan (5th time) and South Korea (4th time); and others. They are within the framework of activities during the term as Viet Nam being Chair of ACDM in 2023.

On June 16, delegates of the abovementioned events will participate in a disaster early action drill in Binh Hai Commune, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province, and visit mangroves in Quang Ngai Province.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viet Nam has been showing itself as an active and highly respected member of ASEAN. 2023 is the year Viet Nam assumes the role of Chair in the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management - an important cooperation content amongst pillars of ASEAN Socio Cultural Community.

In 2022, Viet Nam successfully assumed and performed the role of Vice President of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM); Vice Chairman of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER); Vice Chairman of ACDM; and Vice Chairman of the AHA Center Executive Board.

Viet Nam's contribution as Vice Chairman of the aforementioned cooperation mechanisms in 2022 was highly recognised and appreciated by the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN member states and Thailand (ACDM Chair 2022).

Hosting a major forum on disaster management in the ASEAN region is Viet Nam's obligation, but it also helps the host country improve its role, prestige and position in the region and in the international arena. At the same time, this helps Viet Nam enlist the support of the international community for its disaster prevention and control action and actively contributes to building a resilient ASEAN community, thereby contributing to driving the country's growth.
