The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Can Tho City said that on a Tra Noc river in Binh Thuy district, there has been a serious landslide affecting 13 houses.

The landslide occurred at dawn 20/6, completely clearing the rear of 13 households located on Le Thi Hong Gam Street, Area 2, Tra Noc Ward, Binh Thuy District with a length of about 70m.

Fortunately, the incident did not cause casualties.

According to the reporters at the scene, there are 7 houses along the Tra Noc River seriously affected, the rest are also showing signs of cracking, which can collapse at any time.

Phan Anh, owner of house number 118 in the area, said the landslide happened very quickly, only about 10-15 minutes is that both his back house and neighboring households collapsed into the river.

Mr. Phan Anh hired divers to search for furniture but the area of erosion was very deep, only picked up a few corrugated iron and some rafters of the house.

People living here said that subsidence along the Tra Noc river has happened for many years, the phenomenon of land cracking and wall tearing has occurred frequently but there has never been a heavy damage like this one.

Ms. Dinh Thi Luyen, who has lived in the area since 2000, said that many times the landslide and reinforcement had not been improved, her family had just moved elsewhere to live because of the fear of landslides.

"Four times to build embankments, which cost a lot of money, but the cracked walls and openings occurred, so the family did not feel secure to live and had to leave home to go elsewhere," Mrs. Luyen said.

When the incident occurred, local authorities and functional departments also came to examine and survey.

"I, like the people here, want to have a more decent place to live, but living in an eroding river bank like this is very worried," Mr. Phan Anh said.

Talking to reporters on the afternoon of June 21, Mr. Nguyen Qui Ninh, Director of Irrigation Sub-Department and Chief of Office of Can Tho City Disaster Prevention-Rescue Command said after receiving the information. , he and other officials of the Board went to the field to examine and conduct field surveys to have a plan to support the people.

According to Mr. Ninh, Binh Thuy District is still statistics, reviewing the damage of each specific case to propose the level of support.

Immediately after receiving the report of the District People's Committee, the Steering Committee of Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue Can Tho City will release Disaster Prevention Fund to support the people. Depending on the level of impact, the maximum amount of VND 20 million for each household affected by landslides.

Mr. Ninh said he suggested the local authorities to intensify the propaganda and recommend people in the landslide area to dismantle and relocate furniture to the front to reduce the load on the river bank.

"In the immediate future, people should only live at the front of house , not at the back  to ensure safety," Mr. Ninh recommended.

Currently, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Can Tho City is cooperating with the local authorities to implement solutions to ensure safety for people and at the same time invite the South  Regional Institute of Water Resources Research conducted surveys, measured and identified the causes of erosion on the Tra Noc river to propose solutions to overcome long-term stability.
