Strengthen measures to prevent, respond and overcome consequences of natural disasters

In the context of complicated developments, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has just signed a plan to implement Directive No. 42-CT / TW of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership towards the public prevention, response and recovery of consequences of natural disasters.

According to Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh, the plan to strengthen the prevention, response and overcoming of natural disasters in order to overcome shortcomings and weaknesses in natural disaster prevention and control as well as improve forecasting capacity, warning, meeting the requirements of the society; promptly solve problems arising in the implementation process.

Under this plan, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will focus on completing legal documents, mechanisms and policies on hydro-meteorological forecasting and warning, water resources, and related mineral geology related to natural disaster prevention and control; consolidate organizational apparatus, improve the capacity of directing and commanding; improve the capacity of forecasting and warning, ensuring timely and reliable enough.

The plan also aims to perfect the monitoring system and improve the capacity of warning and forecasting to reach the advanced level of science and technology in Asia, ensuring proactivity in prevention and response to consequences of natural disasters of all levels, sectors, organizations and people.

In addition, the sector also focuses on disseminating knowledge and raising awareness about natural disasters; strengthen information and propaganda in the field of hydrometeorology, prevention and control of natural disasters; harmoniously combine traditional and modern methods to accurately and promptly transmit information on natural disasters and disaster risks with easy-to-understand content and forms.

In particular, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will intensify research and application of science and technology in hydro-meteorological forecasting and warning and natural disaster prevention and control; clearly define the formation, basic characteristics and impacts of each type of natural disaster, forecast trends and developments to propose solutions and forecasts.

In addition, the plan also sets out a target to promote international cooperation in hydro-meteorological forecasting and natural disaster prevention and control; strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation with countries, development partners, donors and scientific research institutions in the region and the world on hydro-meteorological forecasting and warning, especially sharing forecast and warning information about natural disasters, water resources management ../.
