Natural disaster prevention and control integrated into the school curriculum

9:50:26, 21/10/2019 An Giang Department of Education and Training (An Giang DOET) has developed a Plan of natural disaster prevention and control and climate change adaptation for its school year of 2019-2020

Accordingly, a Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and  Climate Change Adaptation of An Giang Education Branch (the Steering Committee) was established. Its members include: leaders and officials of An Giang DOET, of Bureaus of Education and Training (BOET) and schools.

The Steering Committee’s members may include those of self-defense teams of relevant agencies who must be 100% on duty during storms, tropical depressions, cyclones, heavy rains, flood in order to response to disaster emergencies and prepare appropriate plans.

At the same time, the Steering Committee follows up and timely provides information on developments of hydrometeorology, forecasting storms, tropical depressions, natural disasters to all officials, teachers, staff and students so that they may have adaptation activities in time and proactively implement plans on natural disaster prevention and control, searching and rescueing. They also plan to organize training, guidance and propaganda to raise public awareness about climate change adaptation.

Education and training facilities are required to develop DRR plans with different types of natural disasters in the areas with details for the natural disaster prevention and control, climate change adaptation and solving consequences caused by natural disasters: storms, tropical depressions, tornadoes, heavy rain, landslides; and preparing necessary conditions and conduct training practices in accordance with  approved plan.

It is always required for education and training facilities to follow up and implement effectively the “four on the spot motto" and "three readiness". It is also required to develop a plan to disseminate laws and legal regulations on natural disaster prevention and control, which will be integrated with official school curriculum through a number of subjects such as: Citizen Education, Literature, Geography, security and defense Education, etc. and local issues, as well as with extracurricular activities, educational activities out of class time at the schools.

Education and training facilities are required to update, monitor and timely report the risks of natural disasters occurring inside and outside the schools, and draw experiences from the entire education branch. Regularly, they have to inspect and make a survey of the safe use of electricity and water systems, equipment, teaching aids ...
