Facing prolonged hot weather, low humidity in the forests increases the risk of forest fires, Hau Giang province has raised the forest fire warning level from level IV (dangerous level) to V level (extremely dangerous level). ) from March 23, 2020.

According to Mr. Tran Chi Hung, Director of Hau Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Forest Protection and Development Plan of Hau Giang Province, the Steering Committee suggested the forested localities, forest owners must regularly operate vehicles, tools and fire-fighting equipment in key areas; mobilize forest fire forces on the spot in ready position, ensuring timely fire fighting when incidents occur.

Along with that, the localities organize training and practicing forest fire at the unit; manage and strictly control the use of fire in daily life and field sanitation; strictly handle cases of illegal entry and exit of forests.

The Provincial Steering Committee assigned the Office of the Steering Committee-Sub-Department of Forest Protection to continue monitoring and checking the direct response of forest fire to the forest owners, synthesizing reports and proposals if any problems arise as prescribed.
Provinces with forests and forest owners continue to strengthen propaganda, patrol and protection of forests, organize forest fire response to ensure 24/24 hours, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Currently, the forest area in Hau Giang is over 2,800 ha. In recent days, the province continues to have hot weather as the vegetation cover in key areas in very dry forests, the average humidity on the forest floor is low at less than 15%, so the risk of forest fires occurs is very high.

Since the beginning of the dry season, the provincial Forest Protection Department has collaborated with related agencies and forest owners to conduct forest protection patrols; clearing channels and ditches; repairing culverts, dams; assigning forces to regularly patrol, guard, and arrange forest fire fighting equipment and devices at points and fire guard posts to be ready to respond when an incident occurs./.
